How will Drill Team help my student?

Why Are Math Facts Important?

Strong math fact fluency allows students to solve problems more quickly and confidently.

When students must stop and calculate basic facts repeatedly, it slows down their ability to focus on more complex math concepts.

By mastering math facts, students can devote their attention to understanding the math process instead of basic calculations.

How Often Should Students Use Drill Team?

Most students benefit from using Drill Team several days per week.

Sessions are intentionally designed to be short and focused, making it easy to incorporate them into a daily routine.

Even a few minutes of consistent practice can make a significant difference in a student’s fluency.

How Long Is Each Session?

Drill Team sessions are typically short and manageable, allowing students to practice math facts without becoming overwhelmed.

Because sessions are brief, many families incorporate Drill Team as a quick warm-up before beginning their daily math lesson.

What If My Student Has Not Mastered a Level?

Students should continue practicing a level until they demonstrate confidence and accuracy.

If a student needs additional time, they can simply repeat the activities and practice sessions until the facts become automatic.

This flexibility allows students to progress at their own pace.

Here's how you can reset a Drill Team session or assignment to allow your student to repeat it:

  1. Start in your Parent Account.
  2. Click Reports.
  3. Find the Student and select View Reports next to Drill Team.
  4. Open up either Addition/Subtraction or Multiplication/Division.
  5. Find the Session and click the down arrow to open it up.
  6. Click Reset.
    • You can reset either the entire Session or an individual assignment within a Session.

Can Students Repeat Drill Team Sessions?

Yes. Students can repeat Drill Team sessions as many times as needed.

Repetition is an important part of developing strong math fact fluency, and many students benefit from revisiting activities while they build confidence.

From your Parent Account, you can reset the entire course, session or assignment. Here's how to do that:

Can Drill Team Help Older Students?

Although Drill Team was designed with younger students in mind, it can still be very effective for older students who need to strengthen their math facts.

Even teenagers who initially find the program a bit playful often discover that the structured repetition helps them finally memorize the facts they have struggled with.

We suggest you let your tween/teen give it a try and decide for themselves. If they are currently in an NTML Course, they have Drill Team access included. If they are not taking a Course with us, you can sign them up for a Free Trial of just Drill Team here.

Can My Student Practice Only Multiplication or Division?

Yes, Drill Team is divided into two separate sections:

  1. Addition/Subtraction
  2. Multiplication/Division

Your student can complete one or both.
