What is Drill Team?

Modified on Tue, 3 Mar at 10:55 PM

Drill Team is a complete program designed to help students learn and memorize their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts.

Unlike many math fact programs that rely only on repetition or flash cards, Drill Team uses a multisensory approach that engages several parts of the brain in the memorization process.

Students practice math facts through a variety of activities including:

• short instructional videos
• songs and chants
• physical movement activities
• games
• digital flash cards
• written practice
• verbal recitation

This variety helps students stay engaged while strengthening their math fact fluency.

Access to Drill Team is included with every Math Pass and can be used alongside any of the courses offered through Nicole the Math Lady. Some families also use Drill Team as a helpful break when their student’s daily math work begins to feel repetitive.

Which Math Facts Are Covered?

Drill Team teaches math facts in a structured sequence.

Addition facts include:

• +0
• +1
• +2
• Doubles
• Doubles +1
• Sums of 10
• +9
• Misfits (selected addition combinations)

Multiplication facts include:

• 0× through 12×

Subtraction and division facts are not taught separately. Instead, they are introduced as inverse relationships while students learn addition and multiplication.

Can Drill Team Be Used With Any Curriculum?

Yes. Drill Team works with any math curriculum.

Although it is included with Nicole the Math Lady courses, students can use Drill Team even if they are working in a different math program.

The goal of Drill Team is simply to help students master their math facts, which supports success in any math curriculum.

How many days a week is it recommended to do Drill Team? How long does it take to complete?

We designed Drill Team to take 10-15 minutes a day, five days a week. If your student uses that schedule, it would take seven weeks to get through Addition/Subtraction and eleven weeks to complete Multiplication/Division.

But, of course, the program is completely flexible and can be utilized on a schedule that works best for your student.

Addition/Subtraction is divided into 35 Days of content.
Multiplication/Division is divided into 55 Days of content.
Each Day's content should take about 10-15 minutes.

Do Students Need to Log In at a Specific Time?

Drill Team is a self-paced on-demand program that can be completed at the student's convenience.

Students can log in and complete sessions at any time that fits your schedule.

There are no scheduled meeting times or required sessions.

Most Drill Team activities are accessed online through the Nicole the Math Lady platform.
